STATEMENT

Working across painted papers, thread and clay, I explore materialities and visual narratives that investigate subjectivity and emotion. Each character inhabiting my work functions as an introspective refuge, a layering of movements, feelings and actions that move through me.

My practice emerges from the fusion of graphic design, illustration and ceramics, forming a hybrid language in which collage serves as a central methodology: not merely as technique, but as a way of narrating the fragmentation of memory and identity through visual layers.

Texture runs through and unifies my entire body of work. In illustration, I work with thread and inks to build dense, tactile surfaces that become expressive matter in their own right. In ceramics, clay becomes a three-dimensional canvas where the graphic and the handmade converge, accumulating time, gesture and fragility in every layer.

MONI MATEOS

Biography

Mónica Mateos (Buenos Aires, 1971) works with clay as a three-dimensional canvas, where the graphic and the handmade meet. In her pieces, clay gathers time, gesture and fragility.

Collage runs through her entire body of work: in illustration, through painted papers; in ceramics, where it meets thread. This is how she builds dense, tactile surfaces. Texture is not a finish: it is the very matter she thinks with.

From that crossing her characters are born, beings that hold emotions and carry memory like a skin made of layers. Characters that invite the viewer to set their imagination free or to awaken an emotion.
